Firstly, What is Humic Acid?

It is a component of Soil Organic Matter (and Soil Organic Carbon) and present naturally in soils. Healthier, productive soils have a higher humic content.

RONI and Fertiliser Efficiency

Nutrient use efficiencies in Australian agriculture range from 10-60%*, indicating there is significant room to benefit from increasing RONI.

The bonding capacity of humic acid increases the efficiency of other fertiliser inputs.

Humic acid is a natural colloid and provides bonding capacity for applied nutrients making them easier to access by plant roots by keeping them in the root zone and reducing nitrogen leaching and phosphorus lock-up.

 

Better Soil Structure

Introducing good levels of humic acid improves soil structure, it modifies the permeability, porosity, water retaining capacity, absorption, surface area and cation exchange reactions.

Farm results show transformations to friable, healthy, productive soil from hard settling, waterlogged soil, light sands, heavily compacted and salt affected soil all show significant improvement.

Improving soil structure relates to improved fertility, plant production and profitability for farms.
 

 

Return on Water Investment (ROWI)

The improved soil structure that comes with higher humic acid levels, also translates to an improved ability of the soil to use water efficiently both rainfall and irrigation.

Humic acids are a great food source for Fun-Guy species which often have low populations in the soil. This is because they are affected by agricultural practices such as excess tillage, some chemicals and high fertiliser applications.

Plants love Fun-Guy because their hyphae improve soil structure, they build soil humus (stable organic carbon) and make nutrients plant available.
